LVCSD MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of the Las Vegas Charter School of the Deaf (LVCSD) is to promote quality educational opportunites and achievements for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing students of Las Vegas by providing a comprehensive education and a complete array of outreach services for parents and professionals throughout Clark County.
(established 2008)
Welcome to the Las Vegas Charter School of the Deaf – our bilingual school. As the LVCSD enters its second year, we are proud to announce that we have welcomed seven deaf and hard of hearing students.
LVCSD opened in the Fall of 2008 to ensure that Deaf and hard of hearing students have access to their language – American Sign Language (ASL) and English. The reason why the school promotes the development of ASL is because research shows that students who master ASL as their first language develop an easier ability to acquire English proficiency as their second language and build their linguistic and intellectual capabilities. Our mission is providing students with an educational program within a bilingual framework that enhances literacy (reading and writing), signacy (ASL) and oracy (speech).
We continue to be inspired by the passion and dedication we see in educators, professionals, advocates, parents and Deaf Community members/leaders and board of members of LVCSD, all working on behalf of children and families. Thank you for visiting our website. Take your time here to wander through this "journey."
Sincerely,
